When engineers from Japan and India began developing teplo, they hypothesized that “human control over numerical values for making delicious tea might not be the best approach.” This hypothesis eventually led to the development of the personalized extraction feature, which is detailed in this article. Although the journey from numerical control to delicious tea involved various twists and turns, we believe in the following principle:

“Numerically controlled tea is not always delicious, but delicious tea is always produced with proper numerical control.”

While focusing solely on numerical values may not always yield the best flavor due to factors like the drinker’s mood or environment, delicious tea consistently adheres to the basics of numerical control. Therefore, to deliver delicious tea, we pay meticulous attention to key numerical control elements, including the amount of tea, water volume, extraction temperature, and extraction time.

Through our service design process, we concluded that single-serving tea packs are the optimal method to control the “amount of tea” in numerical control. This is the reason teplo official tea leaves are provided in single-serving packs.

To explain the importance of tea quantity in more detail:

Have you ever experienced difficulty reproducing the taste of a delicious tea you enjoyed at a tea shop at home? This is often due to the incorrect amount of tea leaves used. The optimal amount of tea leaves for a 300ml extraction can vary greatly, from 10g to 2g depending on the tea type. Moreover, tea leaf sizes vary by type, making it difficult to standardize measurements like “teaspoons.”

Thus, we conduct extraction tests for each type of tea to determine the optimal amount of tea leaves required for brewing 300ml of hot tea (or 500ml for cold brew). We deliver this optimal amount in single-serving packs, allowing precise control over the “amount of tea” and bringing us closer to achieving a delicious cup of tea.
