Do you have the ability to discern a 0.3mm difference?

Compare

While thinking about various things, I ended up with a strange title.

Suddenly, if you have two glasses of the same shape and one is just 0.3mm thinner, do you think you could discern the difference? Not 3mm, but just 0.3mm (about the thickness of a business card).

Many people might not be confident in their ability to notice such a small difference. In this article, I will share the results of an experiment using the teplo cold brew glass.

First, we prepared prototype glasses with different thicknesses. One glass is 0.9mm thick, and the other is 1.21mm thick, so the difference is about 0.3mm.

When we asked four general participants to compare the two glasses, they identified the difference in thickness with 100% accuracy. Moreover, they pointed out the difference in thickness before even touching the glasses.

From this experiment, it is evident that human vision and sensory perception are more precise than one might imagine. Conversely, if a product’s dimensions are off by 0.3mm, it can lead to a noticeable discomfort with the product.

For teplo products, which are directly touched and used to drink tea, even small differences can significantly affect the impression and experience. Therefore, it is crucial to manufacture products with consistent and precise dimensions.

So, how do you think these fractional millimeter measurements are controlled? In fact, each glass is meticulously hand-blown by glass artisans to achieve this precision.

The craftsmanship involved in consistently creating products with precise measurements is truly remarkable. We often engage with professionals from various fields of manufacturing, and we are always amazed by their craftsmanship. In the future, we plan to focus on the artisans who support teplo’s manufacturing and share interviews and articles about them. Stay tuned!
