The difference between matcha and powdered tea lies in the type of tea leaves used. Matcha is made from a type of tea leaf called tencha, while powdered tea is made from sencha.<\/p>

Because different tea leaves are used, the taste, color, and aroma also differ. (The price is also different; generally, matcha is more expensive.) If you buy powdered tea expecting the taste, color, and aroma of matcha, you might be disappointed as they are quite different.<\/p>

Powdered tea has a fragrance similar to sencha, is lighter in color compared to matcha, and has a stronger astringency. If you use powdered tea as a substitute for matcha in baking or other recipes, be aware of these differences.<\/p>
