This region produces teas with a rich, deep flavor and sweet, caramel-like aroma, making them particularly suitable for milk tea.

Similarities Between Sabaragamuwa and Ruhuna

The teas from Sabaragamuwa and Ruhuna share very similar taste and aroma profiles, and this can be attributed to their historical background. Ruhuna was once the name of the “Ruhuna Kingdom,” and the teas produced within this area became known as “Ruhuna Tea.” Although the name “Ruhuna” no longer exists as a geographic designation, the area that was once the Ruhuna Kingdom continues to be associated with Ruhuna Tea.

Sabaragamuwa was originally part of this Ruhuna Tea-producing area. As a result, the teas produced in Sabaragamuwa have very similar characteristics to those of Ruhuna Tea. However, in recent years, Sabaragamuwa Tea has been marketed independently, gaining recognition under its own name.

The Taste and Aroma of Sabaragamuwa and Ruhuna Teas

Both Sabaragamuwa and Ruhuna teas are known for their rich, deep flavors, with a strong body and sweet aroma. The tea leaves undergo a higher degree of fermentation, resulting in a darker brew. Additionally, the warm and humid climate in both regions allows the tea leaves to grow large, contributing to the robust and rich flavors of the tea.

Conclusion

Sabaragamuwa and Ruhuna teas share many similarities in taste and aroma, a reflection of their shared historical background in the former Ruhuna Kingdom. Sabaragamuwa Tea, like Ruhuna Tea, is characterized by its rich and sweet aroma, making it a delightful choice for those who enjoy strong and flavorful teas. Tasting both teas can be an enjoyable experience, allowing you to appreciate their subtle differences while savoring the deep flavors they have in common.

Recommended Articles

セイロンティーとスリランカティーの違いとは？ –
