The “teplo cold brew carafe,” which went on sale in July 2022, is designed for cold brewing. Even though the carafe incorporates technological elements such as notifications about the optimal drinking time via apps and emails, and a tea subscription service, it is still more analog compared to previous teplo products like the IoT-enabled “teplo teapot.” Unlike the teapot, the cold brew carafe does not have power or Bluetooth functionality, which might be surprising to those who are accustomed to the tech-heavy image of teplo products.
This article will introduce the reason why teplo decided to create the carafe and what motivated this decision.
First, let me introduce the reason why teplo decided to create a carafe. Since the release of the teplo teapot in 2020, teplo has been conducting events under names like “teplo Premium Restaurant” and “teplo Premium Experience,” which include one-day to several-day limited restaurant and tea events.

Through these events, we rediscovered the potential of serving warm tea with the teplo teapot and realized that when enjoying tea with food, a serving temperature of lower to room temperature is often better than higher temperatures. Therefore, at teplo events, we often chilled the warm tea brewed with the teplo teapot before serving it. While chilling the tea solved the issue of serving temperature, the challenge of “what kind of container to use for chilled tea” remained unresolved.
Using a wine carafe can lend an elegant appearance, but it leaves functional issues, such as tea leaves escaping. On the other hand, while tea pitchers on the market fulfill their functional purpose, they often lack the refined design as tableware. Especially in settings where a special experience with food pairing is desired, there was a desire to pursue more sophisticated design.
“If there’s nothing on the market that fits perfectly, why don’t we make it ourselves? A beautifully refined carafe packed with functionality for brewing cold tea. If we’re going to make it, let’s make it not just beautiful but also extremely easy to use.”
This was the impetus for starting the development of the teplo cold brew carafe.
