In the process of designing, developing, and prototyping the teplo cold brew carafe, the teplo team discussed this. Why is the diameter 75mm and the height 225mm? This article will explain the background behind the dimensions that teplo aimed for with the cold brew carafe.

One of the key considerations in making the teplo carafe was to ensure it is “a product that can be used without stress in daily life.” While this is a fundamental aspect of bringing a product to market, we deliberately focused on this principle as we proceeded with the design and development of the carafe.

One of the dimensions that emerged from this consideration is a diameter of 75mm. Most common pitchers used for beverages like barley tea have a diameter of around 100mm, so the teplo carafe is designed to be somewhat smaller. In fact, 75mm is the same length as one side of a milk carton. If the diameter is smaller than this, the carafe can wobble in the side pocket of the refrigerator and be unstable when opening and closing the fridge. Conversely, if it is larger, it won’t fit in the small side pockets of the refrigerator. Have you ever had an experience where a pitcher of barley tea didn’t fit well in the refrigerator and felt somewhat awkward? When designing the teplo cold brew carafe, we aimed to eliminate such minor stresses. That’s why the diameter of the teplo carafe is designed to be 75mm.

Next, the requirement to keep the height within 225mm.

A height of 225mm is the maximum dimension that fits into a small dishwasher. We didn’t want to create a stylish carafe that is only used on special occasions; we wanted it to be something that could be used every day in daily life. Therefore, we focused on a dimension that allows for easy maintenance without stress.

Longer bottles won’t fit in dishwashers and are difficult to clean with a sponge. While such minor inconveniences might be resolved with some adjustments or compromises, we aimed to address these potential stresses in the product’s design and development process. The height of 225mm was determined through this process of re-evaluating manageable stresses and finding design solutions.
